A bit smaller and less commercial than its southern counterpart, the Sunshine Coast is an ideal destination for those who want sun, surf and modern conveniences without the highly commercialised trappings.
And like most of this part of Queensland, the region also abounds with nature reserves, wildlife parks and conservation areas. You definitely won’t be short on ideas for small group tours on the Sunshine Coast!
Small Group Tours On The Sunshine Coast
If you want to stick to the urban areas you’ll find plenty to do on small group tours of the Sunshine Coast. Visit the Bellingham Maze and some of the theme parks here. The Ginger Factory for instance makes a great outing, as does Sea Life Sunshine Coast.
See the Great Pineapple, Sunshine Coast’s answer to all those other ‘great’ monuments that exist out there. Hastings Street is a popular shopping strip along the Noosa Heads main beach. A short distance away is Laguna Lookout and the Noosa National Park. The Noosa Regional Gallery also makes for an interesting visit.
Or just enjoy visiting the many beautiful beaches along this stretch of coastline.
Small Group Tours On The Sunshine Coast – Glass House Mountains
No trip to the Sunshine Coast would be complete without visiting the Glass House Mountains. This group of ancient volcanic plugs dominates the hinterland and towers over the surrounding landscape.
Many millions of years ago this area was covered in rainforests and was also many metres higher than it is now. Over the millennia, the topsoils have eroded away to form the lush plains of the hinterland, encouraging the regrowth of temperate rainforests.
This is one of the most popular locations in SE Queensland due to the diversity of activities available. There are walking trails, plenty of places to try a spot of abseiling, hang gliding or paragliding, boating, camping, fishing, rock climbing, horse riding treks, mountain biking and so on.
Small Group Tours On The Sunshine Coast – Mt Coolum National Park
The Mount Coolum National Park is a popular spot for doing a bit of mountain climbing and the views when you reach the top of the mountain itself are well worth the effort of getting up there! The Mt Coolum waterfalls are also pretty spectacular, particularly after heavy rains when water cascades down over the sides of the mountain.
Mt Coolum towers 208 metres above Coolum Beach and its conspicuous dome shape dominates the skyline in this part of town. Like the Glass House Mountains further south, it’s also a volcanic dome or plug from volcanic activity that happened more than 25 million years ago.
The National Park is home to 2 endangered species of She-oak – Allocasuarina thalassoscopica (Mt Coolum she-oak) and Allocasuarina emuina (Emu Mountain she-oak). There are also protected remnants of the vegetation that was once widespread across the area before human settlement.
Small Group Tours On The Sunshine Coast – Wildlife HQ
In 2014 the Alma Park Zoo in Brisbane closed its doors. The real estate upon which it stood was slated for re-development. It left 200 animals without a home. Zoo Keeper Julie Seabrook took on the task of relocating them to a new home at Wildlife HQ.
The park is located near the Big Pineapple and offers an interactive experience for visitors who can get up close and personal with many of the different animals and reptiles. Before you leave, enjoy a coffee in the park’s café.
